00:00:00.240 Howdy everybody. This is Kyle from the Vaughn Raceworks
00:00:01.920 channel and today I'm
00:00:04.240 going to be showing you how to enable a
00:00:06.080 sport response function much like
00:00:08.400 what's on the modern-day Porsches um on
00:00:11.599 your MED17 ECU. So, your DAZA and your uh
00:00:15.440 EA824 4 LERs. Um this tutorial will be
00:00:18.800 for the 4 LERs. Um I'll have one coming
00:00:20.880 soon for the Dazas. But let's go ahead
00:00:23.680 and dive right into it.
00:00:28.830 [Music]
00:00:32.079 All righty. So, we're going to load into
00:00:33.520 Tuner Pro. And I've actually got a
00:00:35.840 off-the-shelf DS1 stage three tune
00:00:38.160 loaded for this. Um, reason for that is
00:00:40.719 it's just a really solid starting point
00:00:42.559 for anybody that's trying to tune their
00:00:44.559 vehicle. Um, has all of the wastegate
00:00:46.800 duty cycle uh functionality enabled. So,
00:00:50.320 works quite great for that. Let's start
00:00:53.280 off and go over to our temporary map
00:00:55.840 switch 9. So, you might have seen a few
00:00:59.199 different tutorials on the channel for
00:01:01.760 uh things like anti- lag, for a scramble
00:01:05.280 button. Um, and there's a bunch of
00:01:06.880 different things that you can do for
00:01:08.640 this with this map uh in the ECU. For
00:01:12.080 this specific tutorial, we're going to
00:01:13.439 be making a sport response function. So,
00:01:16.560 targeting more boost than you normally
00:01:18.320 would, targeting a little bit more
00:01:20.080 power, um maybe going a little richer or
00:01:22.880 whatever it may be.
00:01:25.119 So, we'll open up our map switch 9 here.
00:01:28.159 And this table is going to be full of
00:01:29.759 stock values. So, since this is going to
00:01:32.400 be a sport response file, you would like
00:01:34.720 to probably use it in all of your maps.
00:01:37.600 So, we're going to take our reference
00:01:42.000 values from map switch one, and that's
00:01:45.119 just going to be stage three or sorry,
00:01:47.680 uh, 93 octane.
00:01:50.000 And we'll go in here. And we're just
00:01:52.560 going to copy all of these over
00:01:57.040 to this here, our map nine.
00:02:01.520 Boom. Save.
00:02:04.479 And again here.
00:02:08.318 Come down here to
00:02:11.360 lambda target for our ethanol. Boom. Now
00:02:14.400 we have a nice safe uh fuel map for this
00:02:18.640 temporary map.
00:02:20.800 And again we can play with the ignition
00:02:22.959 timing in this map too. So let's say uh
00:02:26.239 you are using the map switch one again
00:02:32.800 for
00:02:34.800 most of your driving and you want to
00:02:36.800 pass somebody on the freeway or you want
00:02:38.239 to go have some fun on the twisties or
00:02:40.959 you're getting passed or something like
00:02:42.879 that. somewhere where you would like to
00:02:44.959 have that sport response. I usually
00:02:47.280 would copy these tables over and use
00:02:50.080 these as a reference on this map 9. And
00:02:53.920 again, this is applicable to each
00:02:56.400 specific tune that you make. Let's say
00:02:59.280 you made it for um the the 91 octane
00:03:04.319 uh fueling map. We could take these
00:03:07.040 values here and copy them all over to
00:03:10.239 our uh map 9. But for this video, since
00:03:13.200 it's going to be based on 93, we will
00:03:14.879 keep those 93 uh values in there.
00:03:20.319 Go on down here, and that'll actually be
00:03:22.159 sorry, that'll actually be for these
00:03:23.840 four maps here. Go on down to our
00:03:26.800 wastegate duty cycle direct. So, if we
00:03:30.000 look at
00:03:32.799 on our map switch one, our wastegate
00:03:35.760 duty cycle, you'll see that we're
00:03:37.840 targeting 100% at three bar. Now, what
00:03:42.159 this will do is a few different things.
00:03:45.599 Since we are targeting 100% of our
00:03:48.480 wastegate duty cycle, we're going to be
00:03:50.000 closing that wastegate uh all as hard as
00:03:52.879 we can. Uh we can play around with this
00:03:55.840 table and get a little bit better
00:03:58.159 response out of the the turbos.
00:04:01.519 So, we'll start with copying this file
00:04:04.879 or sorry, this table over and we will
00:04:07.760 save it there. So that now we have a
00:04:10.560 good starting point and we don't have to
00:04:11.920 mess around with the the stock uh values
00:04:15.200 in there. So now since we are met up
00:04:18.160 with that,
00:04:20.160 what I like to do actually is I like to
00:04:23.280 bring out the power band for quite a
00:04:26.400 while. Now the reason for this is it's a
00:04:30.240 sport response table. So, um, having the
00:04:34.160 wastegates completely shut in these
00:04:36.320 events, uh, will keep the turbos spooled
00:04:39.040 up, will make it a lot easier to spool
00:04:40.560 the turbos up, and will make everything
00:04:42.960 nice and happy. And for everything
00:04:45.600 beneath this, let's actually do this to
00:04:49.120 80%.
00:04:51.040 And then we will do
00:04:54.960 70
00:04:57.919 55
00:05:00.560 and we'll do this to 35.
00:05:03.919 So what we did here is everything above
00:05:06.960 2,000 RPM is going to be targeting these
00:05:10.479 values. Um, and you're not going to harm
00:05:12.720 anything by doing this. This is actually
00:05:14.240 just going to keep your turbos spooled
00:05:15.759 up. Might get a little bit extra turbo
00:05:17.360 noise at that time, too. And then also
00:05:20.400 um anything above 2.2 bar will be
00:05:23.840 targeting 100% wastegate duty cycle. And
00:05:28.160 this is a case by case thing for your
00:05:30.240 specific tune. This might be 30% if
00:05:32.639 you're on a max solenoid or it might be
00:05:35.919 um maybe 60% on your um stock actuators,
00:05:40.880 but you're you have uh aftermarket uh
00:05:45.120 intake or sorry, exhaust manifolds.
00:05:48.560 So, we'll leave that as is. And we're
00:05:50.320 going to copy that over to our wastegate
00:05:52.800 duty cycle direct for our ethanol.
00:05:55.919 And we've got good values there.
00:05:59.360 go on down to our limitation map. So,
00:06:02.240 because this is a sport response table
00:06:04.479 and uh we're going to be kind of beating
00:06:07.919 beating the car up in this point, um we
00:06:12.080 are going to reference this
00:06:16.479 as our um this is our our RPM range. So,
00:06:22.080 six or 6,500 RPM uh on the stock map is
00:06:25.759 only targeting 166%.
00:06:28.400 Not too high at all. On, if I'm not
00:06:31.759 mistaken, our map one,
00:06:35.759 it is trying to target 280%. Which is
00:06:39.759 good. That's a that's a solid uh request
00:06:42.720 there. So, since we're looking for some
00:06:45.759 more response, we're going to actually
00:06:47.600 turn this whole table up to let's make
00:06:51.520 it 300%.
00:06:53.919 And the reason for that is so that we
00:06:56.240 don't have any sort of uh load
00:06:58.080 limitation. Um this will heat up your
00:07:00.720 your charge temps quite quickly. So I'm
00:07:03.280 not going to play with these down here.
00:07:05.919 Um but up here is more than great. And
00:07:10.400 then we are going to do this to let's
00:07:12.880 say 245.
00:07:17.199 And then these can go to uh let's say
00:07:20.960 200.
00:07:22.800 So now we have a nice slow bleed onto
00:07:25.840 our torque. Uh let's just make sure that
00:07:27.919 we're not having any sort of abrupt um
00:07:30.880 torque changes or anything like that. So
00:07:33.440 now we can easily get our torque
00:07:36.000 structure
00:07:37.680 and we're going to copy that over to our
00:07:39.120 ethanol table and then go down to our
00:07:42.639 maximum compression ratio map. This is
00:07:45.520 going to limit our turbo's output. So
00:07:49.520 since we are targeting three bar, we're
00:07:52.400 going to make that three bar as our
00:07:54.400 limit. And maybe we'll make this about
00:07:57.280 2.8 bar since it's a sport response
00:07:59.840 table. And for this, we'll just make
00:08:02.000 this two bar.
00:08:04.720 We'll copy this over to our ethanol map
00:08:07.520 as well.
00:08:10.560 Boom.
00:08:13.520 So now we are allowing the engine to
00:08:16.560 target uh that three bar um
00:08:21.680 turbine output pressure ratio whatever
00:08:23.680 you want to call it or compressor output
00:08:25.599 my apologies and this will allow us to
00:08:29.280 uh target three bar. This is like a
00:08:30.879 limitation map. Okay, coming down to our
00:08:35.360 um we're actually going to leave the
00:08:37.679 folder here and we're going to go down
00:08:41.200 to some of these values down here. Now,
00:08:44.560 because this is um kind of chasing how
00:08:47.360 Porsche's sport response system works,
00:08:50.080 uh we're going to go to this minimum
00:08:51.680 time between temporary map switches. So,
00:08:54.240 instead of having to hold down this
00:08:56.000 button, what we can do is we can set
00:08:58.720 this to uh let's say 15 seconds or
00:09:02.160 15,000 milliseconds. And what that will
00:09:05.200 do is the moment we tap the um the
00:09:09.839 cruise control stock downwards, we will
00:09:13.040 be entered and stuck in this map for 15
00:09:16.399 seconds.
00:09:17.920 And what this will do is we will just be
00:09:21.519 in our sport response mode essentially
00:09:23.760 for this specified time. Um, and then
00:09:26.399 you could set a maximum if you were to
00:09:28.720 be holding down on the map or sorry on
00:09:30.959 the cruise control stock. Um, you could
00:09:33.519 set this to a maximum of let's say 20
00:09:36.399 seconds.
00:09:37.920 That way you're not hurting anything on
00:09:39.839 the engine.
00:09:42.080 And these aren't applicable even though
00:09:44.000 this is a temporary map switch. Uh,
00:09:45.920 these aren't applicable because these
00:09:47.279 are for anti-lag.
00:09:49.040 And one more little thing, mask of map
00:09:52.240 switches to be able to switch up to the
00:09:53.680 temporary map. So, this you might have
00:09:56.560 seen this in one of the other tutorials
00:09:58.240 I've made, but this will essentially
00:10:00.880 limit you on what map what maps you are
00:10:03.839 in usually during regular driving. This
00:10:06.800 will essentially restrict you from using
00:10:10.880 this sport functionality on those maps.
00:10:14.560 So, let's say I wanted it on every
00:10:17.360 single map. I would do one one one
00:10:21.839 nine ones, nine bits. Um, and the reason
00:10:25.120 for that is you have nine map switches
00:10:29.200 that you can actually select. 1 2 3 4 5
00:10:33.360 6 7
00:10:36.000 8 nine. Uh, maps eight through zero.
00:10:40.720 And so things for these are on our at
00:10:43.839 least on our uh stage three offtheshelf
00:10:46.720 file 93 octane 90 or sorry 91 octane 93
00:10:50.880 octane 100 octane 104 octane usually
00:10:53.839 this is your stock map. Usually this is
00:10:55.440 a valet map cooling uh no start and then
00:10:59.440 whatever you make this map itself and
00:11:01.519 then obviously our temporary map. Um so
00:11:05.519 let's say we wanted it only in
00:11:08.959 let's say maps
00:11:12.320 3 to 1. So what we would do because this
00:11:16.240 is a bit wise or sorry not a bit wise a
00:11:19.279 signed function we would do zero and
00:11:22.720 since zeros don't carry any value in
00:11:26.079 binary uh we will skip over map eight
00:11:30.880 we'll skip over map seven skip over map
00:11:33.279 six map five and we want uh map three to
00:11:38.720 one so we'll skip over four as well and
00:11:41.440 all we will do is do one one one
00:11:46.720 zero and we'll get a hexodimal number of
00:11:49.839 E.
00:11:51.920 Put that in there. And now we can only
00:11:54.399 switch into this sport response map on
00:11:58.000 map one, two, and three. And you can
00:12:00.000 play with this however you need to. Um
00:12:02.000 if you wanted all of them, like I said,
00:12:03.760 you do all nine bits. Or if you just
00:12:08.240 wanted uh let's say
00:12:11.040 uh map number one to switch into it, we
00:12:13.839 could do none none none none none none
00:12:18.800 none and then one zero
00:12:23.519 and you get a hex of two. So you can put
00:12:25.600 that in there. So play with that as you
00:12:27.920 will.
00:12:29.760 Um I believe that's really about it for
00:12:32.160 this. Um quite simple. It's really sweet
00:12:34.959 to have this functionality, too. And
00:12:37.279 we've got it all set up for our ethanol
00:12:39.360 tables if we have a blend factor or for
00:12:42.079 our gasoline if we're just going to be
00:12:43.760 on 93 octane or race gas or whatever it
00:12:46.720 is. Um, so I could see the RS guys using
00:12:49.600 this quite a lot for being on the
00:12:51.600 twisties, like an RS7 or something on
00:12:53.760 some uh zona rotors, just going and
00:12:56.639 hauling through the twisty mountains of
00:12:59.040 California or something. Something real
00:13:01.440 cool with that. So, we have that sport
00:13:03.839 functionality. Um, quite close to what
00:13:06.160 Porsche offers. It's actually really,
00:13:08.399 really similar and um quite cool that we
00:13:11.839 can add that into the ECU. So, thank you
00:13:14.720 guys for tuning in and as always, I hope
00:13:17.120 you guys learned something. Uh, what do
00:13:18.639 you guys want to see next? Drop it in
00:13:20.079 the comments below. Leave us a like,
00:13:21.600 subscribe, let us know that you really
00:13:23.360 enjoy this and uh we will see you next
